Reported to be the oldest desert on earth, the Namib is approximately 80 million years old. Completely devoid of surface water, it is bisected by several dry riverbeds and is characterised by extensive, undulating dunes. The Sahara may be larger and Gobi more isolated, but the Namib is the very oldest, so on this trip, prepare for the best desert experience possible! Our aim with this trip is to cross the desert from east to west experiencing all the wonders this desert has to offer.

 

 

With the assistance of our knowledgeable and experienced guides you will gain an insight into the history and biology of the untamed land.Training and advice will be given en-route and our guides will be on hand to talk you through any obstacles you might encounter. 2 Way radios are issued to each vehicle at the beginning of the trip. Not only are our guides there to get you to your final destination in a safe, enjoyable manner, but to provide you with 3 excellent meals each day.

Chobe Marina Lodge - Kasane, Botswana

Uniquely located in the North-Eastern corner of Botswana where the four African nations of Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Namibia converge, Chobe Marina Lodge is surrounded by the natural beauty of Africa.
The Chobe River, Chobe National Park, Kasane Forest Reserve, the Caprivi Strip and the mighty Zambezi river, each offer their own attractions and with Victoria Falls but 70 kilometres away, Chobe Marina Lodge is a 'must visit' destination when in Southern Africa.

With the world-renowned Chobe National Park just 10-minutes from Chobe Marina , an encounter with Africa's awesome foursome (elephant, leopard, lion and buffalo) is definitely on the cards. A river boat trip to the park, will introduce you to a totally different game viewing experience.

Fiume Lodge, Grootfontein

Fiume is owner managed and situated just 30 km north from the town of Grootfontein and 3 km from the B8, Fiume Lodge is an ideal stop over for travelers en-route to the north of Namibia, the Caprivi as well as Botswana and Victoria Falls.

 
The Lodge’s ideal location also provides easy access to Bushman land, Khaudom National Park and Etosha National Park. The lodge is situated on a 1400 hectare private game farm with more that 10 different big game species and smaller mammal species.

Located in the midst of the Kalahari, on the fringes of the village of Stampriet in the fertile valley of the seasonal Auob River, Kalahari Farmhouse combines upmarket hospitality with a rural ambience. The reception and restaurant are housed in a manor, built in the heyday of Karakul farming 50 years ago. The small farming business next-door keeps the kitchen stocked with fresh produce for the delicious dishes on the menu. For guests there are 11 tastefully decorated rooms in chalets reminiscent of the Cape Dutch style.

The Adventure...

 The Conception Adventure has been developed as a joint venture between the Topnaar Community and URI Adventures. 

The Conception Adventure is an unique adventure taking place in the vast sand sea of the Namib Desert south of Walvis Bay offering the ultimate challenge for

 thrill seekers with off-road endurance and a taste for adventure. 

Time wise there are various options to choose from when planning your Conception trip - the total trip's duration is 4 days/3 nights but some of the sections can be done in isolation, thus allowing the participant to do some of the sections in as little as 2 days. 

The rest of the trip can then be done on a more convenient time. Each of the sections offers it's own unique experience and scenery. For this reason it is possible to brake the whole route into shorter tours with very little overlapping on any of the highlighted points in the itinerary.

Tswalu Game Reserve to acquire new game-viewing fleet

Tswalu Kalahari has taken delivery of the first of its new game-viewing vehicles, which were ordered as part of Tswalu's vision to provide an intimate safari experience to quests.

The vehicles have only four seats, as opposed to the customary nine, and are designed with comfort in mind.

According to Managing Director, Russel Binks, each vehicle has ample leg-room, removable photographic stands and bean bags for photographers wanting to capture the perfect shot, roll-up tables and a centre console for keeping safari accessories safe so they don't have to be repacked every day.

"Our guests can now have their very own vehicle, guide and tracker, which means that they are able to decide on their own programme for each day.  They can choose when to go game viewing, how long to stay out in the bush and when to stop for snacks and refreshments or a picnic," said Binks.  He added that guests could also stay at a sighting for as long as they wished.

Rhino Poaching

The final figure for the total number of rhinos poached in S A during 2012 is 668. The previous year’s figure was 452. A simple arithmetic calculation provides a stunning statistic: there was a year-on-year increase of 47.8%!!!!!

If this trend continues we can expect the number of rhinos to be poached in 2013 to be around the 987 mark !
The head of Sanparks has issued a statement that the number of rhinos poached in Kruger in 2012 is still less than the number of young born. What about the number of rhinos that died naturally ?

Are we going to wait until there is negative growth before we make this priority number ONE in conservation circles? I believe that more rangers are being employed and that sniffer dogs will be used at entrance gates. This is great news but we need to guard against fostering the impression that we have a complacent attitude. I often wonder for how much longer our guides will be able to show Rhinos to our tourists.
