Chitabe Camp

Chitabe Camp borders the Moremi Game Reserve and the area is a fascinating combination of open floodplains, wooded islands and perennial Delta – which hosts a wide variety of wildlife. Chitabe Camp has been operational since 1997 and has developed an outstanding reputation for loyal, dedicated staff and superb guiding. Chitabe is strictly a land based camp and renowned for its wild dog population.

Chitabe Camp has eight traditional but stylish “meru” style tented rooms. All rooms are built on raised wooden decks and linked by walkways to the main areas. The en suite bathrooms have additional outdoor showers and each room has a private viewing deck overlooking the floodplains. There are ceiling fans, mosquito nets and safes in each room.

Chitabe Camp is accessed by a wooden walkway which leads to the main lounge area. This is large and thatched, and beautifully designed. The cleverly designed bar, hewn from a single trunk of a sausage tree, is fully stocked with a wide variety of drinks.

In the centre of the main area, there are large steps leading down to a round boma with a fire pit in the centre. The small library boasts comfortable and stylish sofas and a great view over the plains.

The swimming pool has a good view over the plain in front of camp. Surrounded by sun loungers and naturally shaded by the enormous trees above, this is a great place to cool off in the heat of the day.

The dining room is a large thatched open-sided room, with views over the surrounding plains. Brunches and dinners are served here. A secluded hide in front of the camp offers guests a relaxing spot to view the wildlife. Chitabe also has a small curio shop selling traditional Okavango crafts and baskets made by the local staff.
