South Africa's leading wine and tourist experience!

Welcome to Constantia Valley, Cape Town’s Vineyard.

Located at the centre of the Cape Peninsula, only minutes from the centre of town, Constantia Valley is Cape Town's secret rural retreat and the perfect place to escape, away from the hustle and bustle of city-life. We use the name Constantia Valley in the broader sense, being the Valley stretching from the Wynberg hill in the north to the Silvermine mountains (the Tokai area) in the south. The Table Mountain National Park borders the Valley to the west and for the purpose of this website we use the Main Road as the eastern border. “Every stranger who arrives at the Cape…makes a point of visiting the Village of Constantia and those famous wine plantations; for these with the Table Mountain are looked upon as the great and first objects of curiosity at the Cape” (Robert Percival, English officer arriving in the Cape in 1796)

The Last Word Constantia wins the best five-star guest house in South Africa for service excellence in accommodation at the national Lilizela Tourism Awards

Constantia Valley is synonymous with relaxation and good living, the perfect place to escape to and be pampered. Be inspired by the power of nature and unwind in serene, idyllic surroundings.

Constantia Uitsig Spa

Constantia Uitsig has opened a luxurious SPA on the private wine estate, which offers breathtaking views of the Constantiaberg Mountains, a mere 20 minutes from Cape Town city centre. Combining state-of-the-art wellness and beauty experiences with the essence of nature, the serene ambience of Constantia Uitsig SPA provides the ideal milieu to relax and restore your sense of ‘joie de vivre’.

Complete with 6 treatment rooms and experienced therapists in attendance, the SPA boasts generous spaces with male and female steam rooms. A tranquil lounge terrace leads into a private courtyard with a heated plunge pool, complementing the subtle presence of nature’s grand designs throughout the SPA. A wide range of specialized SPA and salon treatments are available, ranging from Clarins, Carita and Environ facials, to various massages, reflexology, reiki, waxing, manicures, gel nail overlays and pedicures. The signature body treatment, Les Aromes du Vin, is prepared in the age-old traditions of wine blending, combining the science of Aromatherapy and the art of blending a beautiful bouquet, to provide an intensely therapeutic experience.

South Africa's year-round BEACHES !!!!

South Africa boasts some of the finest beaches in the world. From the pristine coastal stretch of Cape Vidal in KwaZulu-Natal to the Eastern Cape's famous Wild Coast, from the penguin colony of Boulders Beach to sun-drenched Camps Bay in the Western Cape … when it comes to beaches, we win, hands down. Our beaches are much more than a haven for sun-worshipers and surfers. There's so much to see and do along our dramatic coastline, including a range of wonderful multi-day coastal hikes. Here's a quick rundown on some of the best beaches in South Africa.

Eastern Cape

Port St John's, Wild Coast: An extravagantly beautiful, fairly undeveloped piece of tropical coastline, offering great swimming and good lazing in the waters of the coastal lagoon.

Port Elizabeth: Port Elizabeth's benign beaches, protected by the gentle curves of Algoa Bay, offer safe swimming and surfing. Kings Beach is a well- known favorite  while Hobie Beach is popular with locals.

East London: The laid-back city of East London has a thriving beach culture, with sand dunes, rock outcrops and ocean views. Orient Beach has good swimming, and the black rocks of Eastern Beach are great for photos and exploration. Or you could take long walks down Nahoon Beach and Gonubie Beach.

KwaZulu-Natal

Cape Vidal, iSimangaliso Wetland Park: One of the finest beaches in the country, with long stretches of snow-white sand. Visitors can explore the many rock pools along the beach, and sight humpback whales in October.

Umhlanga Rocks: North of Durban, the beaches of Umhlanga come alive during the South African school holidays. There's sea swimming, surfing, boogie boarding, rock pools and warm tidal pools.

South Beach, Durban: Part of Durban's world-famous Golden Mile, South Beach is ideal for swimming and surfing. And there's plenty to do along the beachfront: hawkers sell Zulu beadwork, baskets, woodwork and handicrafts, and ricksha drivers ply their trade. And at the end of the Golden Mile, spanning over 15 hectares of prime beachfront, lies uShaka Marine World, Africa's biggest marine theme park.

Margate, South Coast: The fun capital of the KwaZulu- Natal Hibiscus Coast, drawing crowds of mainly young people in the summer holidays.

Western Cape: Cape Peninsula

Camps Bay: The Western Cape's answer to St Tropez. It's popular with the beautiful people of the world and offers spectacular views of Lion's Head and the Twelve Apostles. Sunsets on Camps Bay are a real treat.

Clifton: This is Cape's "millionaire's row". Known by film crews and fashion magazines as the perfect beach location, Clifton is a favourite for international models and film stars – and the locals love it too.

Bloubergstrand: Bloubergstrand literally means "blue mountain beach" in Afrikaans, and is derived from Blaauwberg, a nearby mountain. It offers spectacular views of Cape Town's Table Mountain and Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for more than 20 years.

Boulders Beach: Boulders Beach, part of Table Mountain National Park, is a haven for jackass (African) penguins. A small entrance fee covers the upkeep of the sanctuary. The huge granite boulders make for spectacular scenery, and the swimming is great.

Hermanus: The sleepy town of Hermanus is known as the best land-based whale-watching site in the world. Every year the town holds a Whale Festival to mark the spring migration of southern right whales. Grotto Beach has won international recognition for its pristine condition and excellent facilities.

Muizenberg: Lying on the Indian Ocean seaboard, Muizenberg's water is warmer than that of other Atlantic Ocean beaches of the Cape peninsula, making it a favorite for swimmers and a great family beach.

Western Cape: Garden Route

Noetzie: Just outside Knysna, this little town of Noetzie, famous for the three romantic castles on its beach. Not too far away are the pristine sands of Buffels Bay, also worth a visit.

Plettenberg Bay: One of South Africa's favourite holiday playgrounds, Plett is home to two incredible beaches, Robberg and Lookout. Robberg offers whale watching, and Lookout some remarkable views of the Outeniqua mountains – as well as spectacular sunsets over the sea.

BLYDE RIVER CANYON LODGE

Welcome to Blyde River Canyon Lodge

About the Lodge & People

Blyde River Canyon Lodge offers the highest quality of accommodation, we provide superior service to our customers and our guests leave with unforgettable memories of their stay. Our experience and commitment to excellence contributes to the fact that we are one of the best lodges in the area.

The Lodge is an idyllic sanctuary which lays in a shallow valley, soaring cliffs on one side and the tranquil flow of the Blyde River on the other. Places of water are places of life! Not only are the water courses of the Blyde River well populated with hippo and crocodiles, the Reserve is home to nyala, impala, wildebeest, zebra, Bushbuck, duiker, steenbuck, Kudu and bushpig. The towering Northern Drakensberg escarpment provides a canvas for nature to capture a masterpiece with each sunrise…experience it!

Vicky Mittan is one of those people who just have Africa deep in their bones. She was born in Kenya and often her family piled into their game vehicle and went off into the bush in the Serengeti and Amboseli. She is passionate about animals and when her father forbade her to ride horses, after a bad fall she went door to door to raise money to get herself back on the horse.

She and her husband, John Mittan and their two young children decided to go for the adventure of a new life Australia back in the 80’s, but Africa kept calling. Vicky was a successful businesswoman in Sydney with degrees in Accounting and Tourism when she and John came for a holiday to the Blyde River Canyon Lodge. Their son was working as a ranger at a game lodge nearby and they ended up at the lodge of the Blyde Botanical Reserve. For Vicky it was love at first sight and over dinner she jokingly said to the owner that if the lodge were for sale they would buy it. Two weeks later they had bought the lodge and two months later Vicky had left Australia, moved into the lodge and taken over.

Guests at the Blyde River Canyon Lodge feel the special love that Vicky has for this land. Within weeks of arriving she had a bush baby and an orphaned impala. Guests could give Mala the impala a bottle or watch the bush baby daintily pick at a tiny bowl of Pronutro.

Guests from all over the world remember sitting on the wide porch of the lodge with Vicky watching the fabulous glow of the setting sun on the deep orange cliffs of the canyon.

When the lodge won first prize at the Bush Banquet last year all of the work that Vicky and her staff have put into making the lodge so special was rewarded. It was a big day for all and an indication of how well this lodge functions as a team.
The core of this success rests in the love that Vicky holds deep in her bones for Africa and it’s people.

Activities:
Recreational activities include lazing at the swimming pool or taking a relaxing stroll to the Blyde River. Savour the ambience of the bushveld under the canopy of ancient Jackalberry trees whose shade cascades over the natural lawn areas.

♠ Wild Coast Horseback Safaris ♠

Saddle-up for a Seaside Safari
Horseback safaris don’t come much better than those on offer at the Wild Coast. Not only is the rugged, untamed landscape mesmerizing  but the seemingly endless coastline fulfills every horse rider’s dream: free-spirited gallops along deserted beaches.

Horseback safaris along the Wild Coast in the Eastern Cape are one of the most exciting and riveting ways to see this magnificent slice of South Africa's coastline. An absolute must for your Wild Coast holiday, horse riding trails allow you to truly experience this diverse region in all its natural splendour.

Ride for a week, a day, even an afternoon; trace sheer cliff paths for endless ocean views, with whale and dolphin sightings along the way; pause for ship wrecks and ancient shell middens, evidence that the earliest San people once gathered molluscs for sustenance here.

A number of routes, of varying lengths, are available, including beach trails, bush-and-beach packages, and combined beach and cross-country routes. This provides for varying riding conditions, from undulating hills to lofty cliffs, rolling green savannah to coastal forests. All the trails provide ample opportunity for you and your trusty steed to enjoy a cool dip in the ocean. Almost all the trails pass through small coastal hamlets, bursting with the warm and friendly hospitality for which the Wild Coast is famous. Overnight trails – of up to 14 nights – include stays at these rural retreats which, with their hearty meals and comfortable (if often basic) accommodation, will leave you refreshed and ready for another day in the saddle.

The Wild Coast is steeped in culture and dotted with traditional Xhosa villages that maintain the tribe's customs and rituals of years gone by. Most horseback safari operators include visits to these villages as part of their trails, allowing you to meet the people, immerse yourself in their culture and enjoy a genuine African cultural experience.

The trails cater for all levels of riders, including children and beginners, are conducted by professional guides, and utilise reliable, well-schooled trail horses that are familiar with the landscape and terrain.   The Wild Coast is an exceptionally beautiful area, and in between rides you can enjoy boat rides, beach walks, bird watching, game viewing, fishing and sunset river cruises. There are also a number of backpacking trails in the area.

How to get there:

Many of the trails are within an hour’s drive of East London. Fly direct from any of South Africa’s major cities to East London or, if you’re driving, from Johannesburg take the N1 highway to Bloemfontein and then the N6 to East London; from Cape Town and Durban take the N2 east and west respectively to East London. Beware, though, the drives from Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban are long and arduous ones.

Best time to visit:

The Wild Coast is an all-year-round destination due to its temperate climate. The dry winter months (April to August) are particularly suited to horse riding.

Length of stay:

Anything from a weekend to two weeks.

What to pack:

As you will be spending much of the time on horseback and outdoors, make sure to pack appropriate riding gear (jeans and boots), a hat and plenty of sunscreen.

LION VS BUFFALO - This is AFRICA !!!

Taken from a vehicle on the opposite side of the watering hole, the video begins with the herd of buffalo approaching the water, unaware of the lions resting nearby. The lions charge and disperse the herd, picking off a young buffalo and knocking it into the water. While trying to drag the buffalo out of the water, it is grabbed by a pair of crocodiles, who fight strenuously for it before giving up and leaving it to the lions. The lions sit down and prepare to eat, but are quickly surrounded by the reorganized buffalo, who move in and start kicking at the lions. After a battle which includes one lion being tossed through the air, the baby buffalo (who is miraculously still alive) escapes into the herd. The emboldened buffalo chase the remainder of the lions away. It is not known if the youngster survived the ordeal.

To watch this video follow the link below. It is definitly a MUST see!!!!

WE MAKE IT HAPPEN FOR YOU

HOW TO GET TO SOUTH AFRICA

It’s relatively straightforward to get to South Africa. Over 70 international airlines fly into the country. South African Airways, the national carrier, connects to major international air routes.
Talk to NAMIBIA RESERVATIONS for advice on the airlines best suited for your journey, and also about special offers or cheap flights that are available.
Expect long-haul flights.
from the United States approximately 15 hours; from Europe approximately 10 to12 hours; from China approximately 17 hours; and from India up to 12 hours.
You may want to break your journey en route, but a direct flight – even if you’re longer in the air at one time – is often the best way to go.

Upmarket game lodges often have their own airstrips (prepare for a safe, but bumpy landing) and your safari package may well include charter flights between Johannesburg, Cape Town or other airports and the various safari lodges. If you’re travelling to the Kruger National Park or Mpumalanga, there are scheduled flights to Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport outside Mbombela (Nelspruit).

You’ll probably fly directly into OR Tambo International Airport or the multi-award-winning Cape Town International Airport. Stay overnight at an airport or easy-to-reach hotel to get your mojo back. You don’t want to arrive in the bush for the safari of a lifetime grumpy and exhausted

THE KLEIN KAROO

The Klein Karoo offers tourists the chance to experience one of South Africa's most interesting landscapes, semi-arid and dry and home to a wide variety of fascinating succulent plant and animal life. Situated between the spectacular mountain ranges of the Swartberg and the Langkloof, the region is home to historic "dorp" towns like Oudtshoorn, Calitzdorp, Ladismith, Van Wyksdorp and Uniondale. It stretches along the R62 from Barrydale in the west to De Rust in the east.
Known for its hot days and cold nights, Klein Karoo used to be home to herds of buffalo, elephant and kudu but today is well known for the ostrich, farmed for its meat, eggs and feathers. Klein Karoo is also home to the bat-eared fox and the common barking gecko.  One of the most popular attractions is the Cango Caves located just west of Oudtshoorn, which are thought to be an incredible 20-million years old. The Wonder Cave, inside the Cango complex, is well known for its incredible stalactite formations. The Klein Karoo also has a wine route, with the easternmost wine producing estates in the country, whose vines grow high on the slopes in the fertile alluvial soil on the riverbanks. A variety of wines including fortified wines and pot-stilled brandies are produced here.

Karoo National Park
Guests arriving at the Karoo National Park just outside of Beaufort West do so generally with one thing in mind: exploring.
An elephantine ecosystem and home to a collection of fossils dating back millions of years, the Karoo park plays host to fascinating cross section of specially adapted species, capable of surviving the area's harsh climate. Sunsets drenched in rose-amber hues are framed by the lofty Nuweveld Mountains and neighbouring plains. Many of the park's endemic species have been relocated to their former ranges, such as black rhino and buffalo, as well as Cape mountain zebra, while over twenty breeding pairs of black eagle are to be found within the park.

Leisurely game viewing is facilitated right from inside one's own vehicle, visitors in 4 x 4 vehicles having access to the ninety kilometer Nuweveld , and thirteen kilometer Afsaal EcoTrail. The Nuweveld route also avails guests to the Embizweni Cottage for an overnight stop, a fully equipped unit capable of accommodating up to six guests with a gas-powered stove, fridge and geysers. Lights are solar powered.  Those opting for a more scenic drive should consider the environmentally friendly Klipspringer Pass and its panoramic viewpoint at Rooivalle. Guided game drives are also provided, conducted under the supervision of trained and enthusiastic staff. A minimum of four people are required for such a drive, each drive accommodating up to nine passengers. Guests wishing to take in a hiking trail may want to consider either the Bossie Trail, the Pointer Hiking Trail or the Karoo Fossil Trail.
